Deputy Foreign Minister Emanuela Del Re has said that ''Italy contributes with significant financial and human resources to the ongoing global effort to alleviate the suffering of the Syrian and Yemeni people, in particular through the promotion of its technological excellence for humanitarian purposes''. Del Re spoke after chairing a meeting with Italian NGOs working in Syria and Yemen.
''The humanitarian crises in Syria and Yemen are absolute emergencies that have social, economic and human costs that are very high'', Del Re also said. ''In Syria, 12 million people need humanitarian assistance. In Yemen, humanitarian access is limited and the emergency involves 80% of Yemenis, according to the United Nations''.
''I am satisfied of the outcome of the meeting with Italian NGOs working on the ground in Syria and Yemen'', she added. ''We believe that sharing information, listening to verified problems and to proposals advanced by operators on the ground are a vital tool to carry out Italian action that is as effective as possible in these conflict areas''.
