Yemen's Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Najib al-Auj called on donor countries and international organizations to make a comprehensive overhaul of the relief work mechanism in the country.
Auj asked for adopting the principle of decentralized aid distribution, reviewing the lists of partners and local employees working in these organizations, and ensuring the delivery of aid to the beneficiaries.
The Minister was speaking at the High-Level Strategic Dialogue on the International Support for the Peace Process in Yemen, organized by the German Foreign Ministry in Berlin, according to the official Yemeni News Agency (Saba).
The Minister of Planning also called for expanding partnerships to include local institutions and the private sector by adopting measures to enhance food security and provide basic food commodities to citizens at reasonable prices in all governorates.
Donors must honor their pledges to bridge the funding gap of the humanitarian response plan for the humanitarian disasters caused by Houthi militias, said the Minister.
He also called on international organizations working in Yemen to promote full transparency in their work, including the publication of financial statements that show how aid is being distributed.
Auj urged them to have zero tolerance for corruption, perform regular internal audits of their offices in Yemen, and launch investigations as necessary.
The Minister of Planning touched on the efforts exerted by the government within the available local resources. He also addressed activating the role of state institutions and putting an end to the weakening of the national currency as the government prepares for its first post-war budget for 2019.
The government prepared a plan for 2019-2020, which highlights urgent government priorities and regular salary disbursement for all state employees in areas under its control.A.Awsat
