Sanaa – Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, leader of the Houthi rebels, announced that his forces launched 11 ballistic and hypersonic missiles, along with drones, targeting Israeli sites over the past week, marking a new escalation in the group’s continued support for Gaza.

In a televised speech aired by Houthi-affiliated media on Thursday, June 12, 2025, al-Houthi stated that the strikes targeted Israeli cities including Haifa, Jaffa, and Ashdod, noting that five of the missiles were directed at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv. He described one of the attacks, carried out on Tuesday evening, as “powerful, effective, and successful,” claiming it disrupted Israel’s air defense systems.

These strikes are part of a broader campaign the Houthis have launched since October 2023, in what they call a response to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestinian factions in Gaza—framing their actions as part of their “duty to support the Palestinian people.”

The Israeli government has yet to issue an official statement, though media reports suggest that some attacks were intercepted without casualties. In recent weeks, Israel has responded with airstrikes on Houthi-held positions in Yemen, including Hodeidah port and Sana’a International Airport.
