Sanaa — Yemen’s Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for launching three armed drones toward Israeli territory, in what the group described as a “retaliatory operation” in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.

According to a televised statement by Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree, the drones targeted strategic sites in southern Israel, including the port of Eilat, though Israeli defense officials have not confirmed any direct hits or casualties. 

Israeli military reported intercepting at least one of the drones using its Iron Dome air defense system, while the status of the others remains under investigation.

This latest announcement follows a series of cross-border attacks between the Houthis and Israel, including missile launches and maritime strikes in the Red Sea. 

Houthis have intensified their campaign since early July, citing what they call “Israeli aggression” and pledging to continue operations until a ceasefire is reached in Gaza.

Israeli officials have condemned the attacks, accusing Iran of backing the Houthis and using them as a proxy to destabilize the region. 

In response, Israel has conducted airstrikes on Houthi-controlled ports and infrastructure in western Yemen, including Hodeida and Ras-Isa.
