Sana’a –The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has announced that more than 400 people were newly displaced across Yemen during the past week, with the majority fleeing their homes due to natural disasters such as floods and storms.

In its latest weekly displacement tracking update, IOM revealed that 424 individuals—comprising 70 families—were forced to relocate within the country between September 15 and 21. The organization noted that environmental factors, particularly flash floods and heavy rainfall, were the primary drivers of displacement, surpassing conflict-related causes during the reporting period.

Most of the newly displaced were recorded in the governorates of Al Hudaydah, Taiz, and Marib, where vulnerable communities continue to face compounding challenges including deteriorating infrastructure, limited access to basic services, and exposure to climate-related hazards.

“The humanitarian situation in Yemen remains fragile, and natural disasters are increasingly contributing to displacement alongside ongoing conflict,” IOM stated. “Urgent support is needed to provide shelter, clean water, and health services to affected families.”

Yemen has witnessed recurrent waves of internal displacement over the past decade, with millions uprooted by war, economic collapse, and environmental shocks. Humanitarian agencies warn that climate change is intensifying the frequency and severity of weather-related emergencies, placing additional strain on already overstretched aid systems.
