Aden – The British Ambassador to Yemen, Abda Sharif, has warned that millions of people in northern Yemen are in urgent need of life-saving humanitarian assistance, while hundreds of thousands face the threat of famine. She cautioned that the situation continues to deteriorate due to the Houthis’ obstruction of humanitarian work.

In a statement, Ambassador Sharif said that the Houthi group continues to detain and harass UN humanitarian staff, while also blocking the delivery of life-saving aid to the most vulnerable groups, causing what she described as “indescribable suffering.”

She added that such actions are “driving the country toward a total humanitarian collapse,” emphasizing that “the suffering of Yemenis lies entirely on the shoulders of the Houthis due to their repressive policies and obstruction of international humanitarian efforts.”

Yemen is currently facing one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, with more than 20 million people in need of some form of assistance, according to United Nations reports. The UN continues to warn of a looming famine threatening several regions across the country.
