Yemen : Joint Security Forces Capture Notorious Fugitive “Al-Asfar” in Taiz
Taiz – Yemeni security authorities in Taiz governorate have announced the arrest of one of the country’s most dangerous fugitives, known by the alias “Al-Asfar,” during a coordinated security operation carried out earlier this week.
The suspect was wanted in connection with multiple murder cases, armed robbery, and acts of banditry, and had previously been sentenced to death by a competent court.
The joint campaign, led by the Taiz Security Committee and supported by military units, targeted several hideouts in the southern districts of the governorate.
According to Brigadier General Anis Al-Shamairi, Deputy Police Chief of Taiz, the operation was executed with precision and resulted in the arrest of “Al-Asfar” without casualties among the security forces.
Authorities described the detainee as a high-risk individual who had evaded justice for years and was linked to a series of violent crimes that terrorized civilians and disrupted transport routes between Taiz and neighboring governorates. His capture marks a significant breakthrough in the ongoing efforts to restore law and order in the region.
The arrest comes amid a broader campaign that has led to the detention of dozens of suspects involved in assassinations, sabotage, and organized crime. Security officials confirmed that “Al-Asfar” will be transferred to a high-security facility pending the execution of his sentence and further investigations into his network.
Local residents and civil society groups in Taiz have welcomed the arrest, calling it a step toward justice and accountability. The Security Committee reiterated its commitment to pursuing all fugitives and dismantling criminal cells that threaten public safety.
