Taiz -- A deadly bus accident in Yemen’s Taiz Governorate has left at least 5 people dead and 9 others injured after a passenger vehicle overturned on a steep mountain slope in Naqil Haifan on Tuesday, November 18, 2025.

According to local sources, the bus was traveling along the treacherous Haifan Pass when the driver reportedly lost control, causing the vehicle to plunge off the road. 

The incident occurred in a mountainous area notorious for its sharp turns and deteriorated infrastructure, which has worsened due to years of conflict and limited maintenance.

The bus was carrying civilian passengers, many of whom were en route between Taiz and Aden. 

Emergency responders rushed to the scene, and the injured were transported to nearby hospitals for urgent medical care. Most of the wounded are reported to be in serious condition.

This tragedy underscores the ongoing risks faced by travelers in Yemen, where road safety remains a critical concern. 

The country’s decade-long civil war has severely damaged transportation infrastructure, contributing to frequent and often fatal traffic accidents. Poor road conditions, mechanical failures, and lack of traffic enforcement are among the leading causes of such incidents.

Authorities have not yet released the identities of the victims, and investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the crash. The accident is expected to further disrupt travel along the Al-Qubaytah detour, a key route for residents of the besieged city of Taiz.

For now, the tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for road rehabilitation and improved safety measures across Yemen’s mountainous regions.
