Masam Project Clears 1,151 Explosive Remnants of War in Yemen
Aden — The Saudi-funded Masam Project has announced the successful clearance of 1,151 explosive devices across war-affected regions of Yemen during the week of July 19–25, 2025, marking another milestone in its ongoing humanitarian demining efforts.
According to the project’s press office, the cleared items included:
- 4 anti-personnel mines
- 49 anti-tank mines
- 1,093 items of unexploded ordnance (UXO)
- 5 improvised explosive devices (IEDs)
The operations spanned 186,051 square meters of land, focusing on civilian areas such as roads, villages, and infrastructure sites.
These efforts aim to reduce the risk of injury and death among displaced populations and humanitarian workers, especially as seasonal sandstorms have increased the likelihood of accidental encounters with buried explosives.
Since its launch in 2018, Masam has removed over 507,000 explosive threats, including landmines and UXOs planted during Yemen’s prolonged conflict.
The project continues to play a vital role in restoring safety and enabling the return of displaced families to their communities.
