Salaries of Yemeni Government Media Employees Delayed for the Ninth Month Amid Difficult Living Conditions
Riyadh – Exclusive Report
The salary crisis of Yemeni media professionals working in state-run media institutions under the internationally recognized government has entered its ninth month, amid worsening living conditions and an absence of any tangible solutions.
According to media sources, journalists and employees at Yemen TV, Aden TV, Sana’a Radio, the Yemen News Agency (SABA), and the Al-Thawra Press Foundation are enduring extremely difficult humanitarian circumstances, as they have not received their salaries for more than eight months, with no operational or subsistence allowances provided.
The sources confirmed that these media professionals have become unable to meet their families’ basic needs for food, housing, and daily expenses, especially amid the high cost of living in Riyadh, one of the most expensive cities in the Arab world. Many are facing accumulated rents and growing debts due to their prolonged unpaid situation.
Several journalists said they have repeatedly appealed to the relevant government authorities but have received no response so far, while repeated promises of salary disbursement remain unfulfilled.
Observers warn that the continuation of this situation could reflect a deliberate policy of marginalization aimed at weakening official media institutions and silencing what remains of the government’s voice, at a time when the Houthi media machine continues to operate actively after more than a decade of conflict.
Journalists are calling for the immediate payment of their overdue salaries and for enabling state media institutions to carry out their national and professional roles during this critical phase Yemen is going through.
