Two African immigrants were killed in the interim Yemeni capital, Aden, in ethnic clashes between Ethiopian immigrants from the Oromo nationality and others from the Amhara nationality, according to local media sources.
The sources said that the armed clashes that erupted near the Cairo roundabout in the city of Aden began with the killing of an Ormo, who was beheaded by another immigrant of the Amharic nationality.
The sources indicated that security forces deployed military crews to control security in the vicinity of Sheikh Othman district.
Late Friday evening, news circulated of the expansion of clashes and violence between African immigrants belonging to the "Oromo" and "Amhara" nationalities, the two largest ethnic groups in Ethiopia, from the city of Aden to the neighboring governorate of Lahj.
In the context, the Aden Security Department confirmed that a quarrel between groups of illegal immigrants from the Horn of Africa in a number of districts turned into riots that caused severe damage to private and public property.
In a statement issued by it, on Friday evening, it added that in this regard, the security services, based on their responsibility, should have intervened to resolve the conflict in order to preserve the lives and public tranquility of citizens, in accordance with legal rules and procedures.
The statement stressed that what Aden witnessed as a result of these unfortunate events requires a radical treatment of the problem of illegal immigrants, pointing out that the capital's security department, the local authority and government agencies had previously appealed in more than one speech and occasion to all concerned parties in this regard, without any response.
According to the statement, the Aden Security Department affirmed its keenness to provide all facilities, partnership and cooperation in order to find a real solution to the problem of illegal immigration, renewing its appeal to the international community, the International Organization for Migration, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, and all relevant authorities, to intervene urgently and move according to a practical plan. A chronic problem to address this problem that threatens the security and stability of the city.
The Aden Security Department called on the local and international media to exercise caution, to draw information from their official sources, not to be led by misleading sources, and to spread false information.
