Yemen's Houthi rebels have sent emails to German ship owners sailing in Middle Eastern waters to Israeli ports with the aim of "intimidation," the owners' association confirmed Monday.

These threats target ships sailing in the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden, the Arabian Sea and even the Indian Ocean. "We take these threats seriously and are in constant contact with our members and the authorities," the association added, denouncing "attempts at intimidation."

The Houthis control large parts of Yemen and, along with the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and the Lebanese Hezbollah, form part of the "axis of resistance" against Israel led by Tehran in the region. In November 2023, the Yemeni rebels began launching missile and drone attacks in the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea on commercial ships they believe are linked to Israel or heading to its ports, stressing that this comes in support of the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip in light of the war between Israel and the Hamas movement that has been going on since October 7 of last year. They later announced the start of launching missiles and drones towards the Hebrew state.
