Yemen: Houthis Trying to Recruit Africans from the Horn of Africa to Join Their Forces

The Houthi group has begun recruiting migrants from the Horn of Africa into its ranks, Yemeni sources reported on Sunday.
According to the report, the armed group has recently begun recruiting migrants of African origin into its ranks, who came to Yemen from countries in the Horn of Africa, including Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia, and Djibouti.
The report added that the migrants who joined the Houthis arrived in Yemen after crossing the Red Sea in small boats. The report stated that the group is exploiting the poor standard of living in African countries and Yemen to recruit migrants into its ranks.
According to estimates, migrants recruited into the Houthi ranks did so for low wages, and sometimes only in exchange for basic necessities and food. In some cases, migrants were forcibly recruited to participate in military activities.
