UN : 40% of Displacement Sites in Yemen at Risk of Fires and Floods

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has warned that 40% of displacement sites in Yemen face significant risks from fires and floods, endangering thousands of civilians already struggling with the country’s humanitarian crisis.
The UNHCR stated that it is working with partners to provide training programs aimed at equipping displaced families in Marib governorate with the knowledge and skills necessary to prevent fires and respond safely and quickly to emergencies, minimizing human and material losses.
This warning comes amid repeated tragic incidents in Marib, where refugee camps have witnessed 45 fire-related accidents since the beginning of this year. These incidents have resulted in the death of at least one child and injuries to four other people, according to the Executive Unit for IDPs in the governorate.
Marib is home to more than 200 displacement camps, sheltering hundreds of thousands who fled ongoing conflicts in other parts of Yemen. These camps are particularly vulnerable to natural disasters and fire hazards due to overcrowding and inadequate infrastructure.
