Aden — Yemenia Airways celebrated a major milestone with the arrival of its newest aircraft, the Airbus A320 named "Kingdom of Awsan", at Aden International Airport. The addition marks a significant step in the national carrier’s ongoing fleet modernization efforts.

The welcoming ceremony was attended by Minister of Transport Dr. Abdul Salam Humaid, senior aviation officials, and representatives from Yemenia. In his remarks, Minister Humaid congratulated the airline and the Yemeni people, emphasizing that the new aircraft will help ease travel burdens and expand flight capacity amid growing demand.

Captain Nasser Mahmoud, Chairman of Yemenia’s Board of Directors, stated that the aircraft seats 150 passengers across business and economy classes. He noted that the name Awsan honors the ancient Yemeni civilization, reflecting national pride and cultural heritage.

“This acquisition is part of our broader strategy to rebuild and modernize Yemenia’s fleet despite the challenges we’ve faced,” Mahmoud said. “We are grateful for the support of the Presidential Leadership Council and the Ministry of Transport in facilitating this achievement.”

The aircraft is the fourth to join Yemenia’s fleet and is expected to enhance domestic and regional connectivity. Officials also reaffirmed their commitment to reviewing ticket pricing policies and promoting sales in the national currency to ease economic pressures on citizens.

The arrival of Awsan signals Yemenia’s resilience and ambition to restore its status as a reliable and competitive airline in the region.
