Yemen Gov't Signs Landmark Deal to Revitalize Historic Mocha Port
Aden — The internationally recognized government of Yemen has announced the signing of a major agreement to rehabilitate and relaunch operations at the historic Mocha Port in Taiz Governorate, marking a significant step toward reviving one of the oldest ports on the Red Sea coast.
The signing ceremony took place at the Ministry of Transport headquarters in Aden, where Abdulmalik Al-Sharaabi, Deputy Chairman of the Red Sea Ports Corporation and Director of Mocha Port, formalized the deal with Laith Al-Ward, General Manager of Prima Investment Company.
Under the memorandum of understanding, Prima Investment will undertake a comprehensive development project valued at $138.907 million, aimed at modernizing infrastructure, enhancing operational capacity, and restoring the port’s role as a vital hub for trade and maritime activity.
Officials emphasized that the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening Yemen’s economic lifelines and reconnecting the country’s Red Sea ports with regional and international shipping routes.
The rehabilitation of Mocha Port is expected to boost local commerce, create jobs, and reinforce Yemen’s strategic position in global maritime trade.
