ERC builds 470m-artesian well, installs 200m3 tank linked to 36,000m water line, which handles 3.5 litres of water per second.

The UAE's humanitarian arm Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) is continuing its development initiatives to prevent drought in Yemen by implementing hundreds of projects related to drinking water in areas suffering from water scarcity.

The ERC has inaugurated a new development project that will provide water in the Hadramaut Desert, which includes a 470-metre artesian well in the Al Qaf District, benefitting 4,000 people.

The project includes a 200m3 tank linked to a 36,000-metre-long main water line, which handles nearly 3.5 litres of water per second. It also includes the installation of a comprehensive solar energy system with 204 panels.

The ERC’s initiatives and projects have been taken up based on the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and are being implemented under the monitoring of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the ERC, according to the state-run news agency, Wam.

Commenting on the recent project, the secretary-general of the ERC, Dr Mohammed Ateeq Al Falahi, said that the ERC completed the project in a short time despite the challenges it faced.
