Sana’a — Security and intelligence reports have revealed the interception of more than 15 illicit arms shipments destined for Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen since the beginning of the year, underscoring ongoing efforts to curb the flow of weapons fueling the conflict.

According to officials familiar with the matter, the seized shipments included advanced weaponry, explosives, and military-grade components believed to have originated outside Yemen. 

The smuggling operations were reportedly disrupted through coordinated efforts involving regional naval forces and international partners monitoring maritime routes in the Red Sea and Arabian Sea.

The intercepted cargoes were allegedly en route to Houthi strongholds in northern Yemen, bypassing official ports and border controls. 

Authorities have not disclosed the exact origin of the shipments, but investigations are underway to trace the networks responsible for financing and facilitating the transfers.

“These seizures reflect the scale and persistence of arms smuggling operations targeting Yemen,” said a regional security analyst. “They pose a direct threat to peace efforts and regional stability.”

The Yemeni government has repeatedly accused the Houthis of relying on smuggled weapons to sustain their military campaign, in violation of international resolutions. The latest findings are expected to be presented to the United Nations Security Council as part of broader efforts to tighten enforcement of the arms embargo and prevent further escalation.

The reports come amid renewed diplomatic momentum to revive peace talks and reduce hostilities across Yemen, where years of conflict have left millions in need of humanitarian assistance.
