Yemen stops issuing passports

Yemeni authorities have stopped issuing passports as a result of the high demand, Al-Araby Al-Jadeed reported yesterday.
A source in the Yemeni Authority of Immigration and Passports in the governorate of Taiz said that issuing passports was halted because of the backlog of applications which piled up after passports ran out.
The sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, added: “Only patients and people in urgent need to travel can get passports in addition to students who study abroad.”
He noted that all the departments of the Authority of Immigration and Passports in all Yemeni governorates had stopped issuing passports.
Nevertheless, he stressed this would be “temporary”, noting that the Authority of Immigration and Passports is exerting efforts to get passports.
