UN Security Council Briefing Highlights Yemen's Escalating Crisis

During a recent UN Security Council briefing, Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, and UN Emergency Relief Coordinator, Tom Fletcher, delivered stark warnings about the deteriorating situation in Yemen.
Grundberg expressed deep concern over the potential resurgence of full-scale conflict, emphasizing the "palpable" fear among Yemeni citizens.
Grundberg highlighted the ongoing military activities, including shelling, drone attacks, and infiltration attempts in regions such as Ma'rib, Al Jawf, Shabwa, and Ta'iz.
He stressed the importance of refraining from escalatory rhetoric and urged all parties to commit to a nationwide ceasefire.
Fletcher drew attention to the severe funding cuts faced by UN agencies, which have significantly hampered humanitarian efforts. He underscored the devastating impact on women and girls, who continue to bear the brunt of the crisis.
Fletcher called for immediate and substantial international support to address the worsening humanitarian situation.
The briefing concluded with a call for unified action to prevent further escalation and to ensure the protection of Yemen's vulnerable population.
