Aden — Spanish authorities have successfully dismantled a transnational smuggling ring that specialized in the illegal trafficking of migrants from Yemen into Europe. The operation involved extensive coordination between Spain’s Guardia Civil, Europol, and international intelligence agencies.

The network allegedly facilitated the clandestine movement of hundreds of Yemeni nationals, exploiting maritime and land routes across the Mediterranean and through North Africa. 

Authorities say the smugglers charged exorbitant fees while exposing migrants to dangerous conditions, including overcrowded boats and forged travel documents.

A total of 17 individuals—including suspected ring leaders—have been arrested following raids across Madrid, Valencia, and the southern coast. Spanish police confiscated large sums of cash, mobile devices used in coordination, and a trove of false IDs and passports.

The operation comes amid growing concerns about the rise in irregular migration from conflict-affected areas, with Yemen being a major source due to its ongoing humanitarian crisis.

Investigations are ongoing, with Europol pledging continued support to dismantle similar networks operating across the region.
