The sixth joint ministerial meeting of the strategic dialogue between the GCC countries and the Russian Federation, which was held in Moscow, praised the mediation efforts made by the Sultanate of Oman to resolve the crisis in Yemen.
His Excellency Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, Secretary-General of GCC countries , affirmed that the sixth joint ministerial meeting of the strategic dialogue between the GCC countries and the Russian Federation produced results and a joint action plan 2023-2028 that serves the interests of both sides. This came during His Excellency's participation in the sixth joint ministerial meeting of the strategic dialogue between the GCC and the Russian Federation.
The GCC side was chaired by His Excellency Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Minister of Foreign of the Sultanate of Oman, Chairman of the current session of the GCC Ministerial Council, while the Russian side was chaired by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, in the presence of Their Highnesses and Excellencies the foreign ministers of the GCC countries, in the Russian capital, Moscow.
The participating ministers stressed the importance of strategic dialogue in order to achieve common interests and enhance friendship, mutual trust and cooperation between the two sides. They also stressed the important role played by their countries in supporting the global economy, stabilizing energy markets, and promoting prosperity.
The joint Russian-Gulf statement welcomed the efforts of the GCC countries in mediation aimed at creating conditions for a political solution to the crisis in Ukraine. The statement also called on all Sudanese parties to initiate negotiations and support diplomatic efforts in Sudan to reach an agreement that spares the Sudanese people the scourge of wars and conflicts.
The statement stressed the necessity of resuming a credible peace process aimed at reaching a just solution to the Palestinian issue on the basis of the two-state solution, in accordance with relevant United Nations resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative, establishing an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, stopping settlement activity and all unilateral measures, and respecting the historical status quo in the city of Jerusalem and its holy places.
The statement also praised the mediation efforts made by the Sultanate of Oman and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia towards a political settlement in Yemen, and called on all Yemeni parties to immediately initiate direct negotiations under the auspices of the United Nations, abide by the continuation of the armistice, and support the relief, humanitarian and development needs of the Yemeni people.
The Secretary-General of the GCC countries said: "The meeting discussed many issues of common interest in a positive and transparent spirit. Views were exchanged on many regional and global files, and the Russian-Gulf joint action plan 2023-2028 was approved, which aims to strengthen relations and exchange experiences in many aspects."
