Yemen: Youth and sport between two ministers

Paris By: Abdulsalam Alsoudi
Yemen is the country that lives outside history due to war, crisis and division.
Yemen is the only country in the world that has two presidents and perhaps more, two governments and two administrations, consequently it has two ministers of youth and sports, one in the north under the control of the Houthis, de facto authority in the capital Sanaa, and the other one in the south, appointed by the government forces represented by President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi in the economic capital Aden.
Every minister serves the interests of the party for which he works and is not concerned with the youth and the nation’s athletes, who have become distracted between that and waver between those .. Neither to those they belong nor to those who wish, but it is the reality of the bitter war that deceived everyone and subjected to it all without their helplessness and power.
The minister in Sanaa does not understand anything about sports. He is a politician from the militant Shiite Al-Haq Party, and he has a black history with the youth who pushed them to the holocausts of the youth revolution in 2011 and was inciting them to death and calling them to storm government institutions and disrupt their work to bring down the regime .. He continued his climb and deceive to the leader of a group Al-Houthi showing his obligations of loyalty and obedience until he was appointed Minister of Youth and Sports although he does not know the meaning of sport .. and an old man who does not differentiate between the goal in football and the point in tennis .. he came from among the rubble of the war carrying his pistol that does not leave in the ministry furthermore, his corruption appeared For the public, where the (Yemen Today) newspaper published, through its sports supplement, what it described as the first episode of the corruption of the Minister of Youth and Sports entitled .. “The family rule of Hassan Zaid” .. and the marginalization of cadres and competencies for the sake of family rule .. relatives and female relatives of the minister infiltrate the joints of the ministry .. establish new departments and sectors to accommodate his family and friends.
Throughout its history, the Ministry of Youth and Sports has not issued the huge number of decisions issued by Minister Zaid within a short period in order to appoint his relatives, in-laws and friends, Youth and Sports Welfare Fund, many of them with the ranks of general managers, in less than ten months. The rest is waiting.
The newspaper asked: Is the Ministry of Youth proceeding along the lines of transforming Al-Haq Party into a family party ?! As it seems that Minister Hassan Zeid is working to transform the Ministry of Youth and Sports into a family institution controlled by his family members, similar to his transformation of Al-Haq Party that he heads into a family party after it was abandoned by most of its leaders and affiliates, according to the newspaper, which supported its words with documents, names and new positions that they took over within ten months From his leadership of the ministry ..
On the other side stands that young sunni minister, Nayef al-Bakri, at the head of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and he is known for his affiliation to the Muslim Brotherhood and a fierce jihadist on the battlefield, as he led the operations to liberate Aden Governorate from the Houthi tide, after which he appointed governor of Aden governorate only three days after the expulsion of the Houthi armed group and then a minister For youth ..
Al-Bakri is the most controversial name in the past year in the southern political arena, and perhaps the Yemeni in general .. Many believe that Al-Bakri is excluded from political life because of his previous affiliation with the Islah party in Yemen, although the man submitted his resignation from this party, but he seems to see that he is bigger than the Ministry of Youth and Sports, as he was aspiring for a bigger position, perhaps his goal was the prime minister, as he faced strong pressures from the Arab coalition led by Saudi Arabia and the Emirates that prevented him from returning to Aden, which opened the door to questions about the secrets of his removal from Aden following the dismissal of the transitional president Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi Former Prime Minister Ahmed Obeid bin Dagher was dismissed, which was followed by a demand for the formation of a mini-war government of 15 ministers who would run the liberated cities and fight the Houthis.
The young minister was unable to serve sports and athletes, staying away there in Riyadh hotels, lacking the ability to communicate and support the heroes who achieve victories in wartime.
Al-Bakri says that he has youth and sports projects that he has implemented through an administrative and sports staff in all the liberated governorates, that development plan has been prepared related to youth, sports, physical and sports activities, besides appropriate programs for the advancement of athletes technically, moreover scientifically, as well as spreading culture, education, monitoring national developments and International in the field of youth and sports, but nothing of this happened, it’s just media bangs.
The victims are undoubtedly those young people and athletes who went after a living because of the cessation of sporting activity, additionally some of them joined the battle on various fronts, into the bargain many of them died in the mountains and valleys defending lost causes, while others worked in handicrafts to support their families and children, and there are many tragic stories for stars in the Yemeni stadiums, they have become fuel for the forgotten war in Yemen.
Finally ..
Scientific studies confirm that sport cannot live in isolation from politics .. !! In our country, Yemen, we have two ministers for youth and sports, while there has been no football league for six years ago, not to mention as these lean years have witnessed of frightening decline, during which thunderous failures and defeats were recorded in a way that negatively affected its reputation also led to the reluctance of the sports fans who followed the performance of Yemeni football and retreated back decades and its performance was weak and absent Competition due to financial, administrative corruption, policy overlaps and alliances.
The significant decline in the level of sport in Yemen is only a natural result of the corruption of club administrations and the subjection of appointments during the past ten years to purely political criteria in the manner that resulted in administrations lacking the competencies necessary for sports planning.
Talking about a government approach to address the failures of Yemeni sports and restore life to it is still only wishful thinking unless there is a decisive and high political will capable of caring and imposing an appropriate environment for development.
