Think tank concludes Doha and Ankara are bankrolling, supporting interlinked network across Britain, Europe
A leading London-based think tank recently published a 100-page report that concluded that Qatar and Turkey are "bankrolling and supporting an interlinked network of Muslim Brotherhood organisations across Europe," according to UAE outlet The National.
"A report from the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation at King’s College London titled 'The Islamic Movement in Britain,' said Doha's funds flowed through Qatar Charity to bodies based in Britain and elsewhere."
The authors highlighted that some of the recipients of charity take their cues from Yusuf al-Qaradawi, an Egyptian-born but Doha-based Islamic theologian credited as the Muslim Brotherhood's unofficial chief ideologue.
The report also reveals that alongside Qatari influence, there has been a steady expansion of the Turkish presence across the network.
One of the key revelations was the extent to which Qatar funds Islam in Britain and the rest of Europe but "also of how British, European and Qatari organisations are interlinked through their partnerships and the multiple roles of some of their key staff."
Multiple links were uncovered between a range of bodies that appeared to have common front organizations, many of which had their origins in the Muslim Brotherhood and are concerned with Palestine.
Groups connected in this way include the Muslim Association of Britain, the British Muslim Initiative, the Cordoba Foundation, the Palestinian Return Centre, and the Palestinian Relief and Development Fund (Interpal).
The latter is a US-sanctioned charity, which the US government accuses of providing financial support for Gaza's Islamist rulers - and Muslim Brotherhood offshoot - Hamas.
With regard to the UK specifically, the report pointed out that the Muslim Council of Britain - in the past viewed as the semi-official voice of the Muslim community in the country - is the key nexus of the Islamic Movement and seems to no longer be courted as once it was.
