UN welcomes Oman’s role in tackling Yemen crisis

The sultanate and the United Nations on Thursday held a meeting during which they reviewed developments of the situation in Yemen. The meeting took place in the office of Oman’s Permanent Delegation to the UN.
Oman’s delegation in the meeting was headed by its permanent representative to the UN, H E Dr Mohammed bin Awadh al Hassan, while David Grisley, the UN’s coordinator for humanitarian affairs in Yemen, represented the international organisation.
Grisley reiterated that the UN welcomed the positive role of the Omani government in seeking ways to resolve the Yemeni crisis. The two sides explored means of alleviating the Yemeni people’s humanitarian suffering. They stressed the significance of engaging the global community so that it could exert more efforts and stand by the Yemeni people in their predicament.
While appreciating the international efforts made so far for the restoration of security and stability in Yemen, the two sides called for a re-start of negotiations to settle the differences between Yemeni parties by peaceful means.
