Aden – The U.S. Embassy has praised recent maritime and land-based operations that successfully intercepted shipments of weapons and narcotics allegedly destined for Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen, describing the actions as a “critical step” toward enhancing regional stability and protecting Yemen’s sovereignty.

In a statement released this week, the embassy emphasized that the seizures—carried out in coordination with Yemeni National Resistance Forces and international partners—disrupted illicit smuggling networks linked to Iran-backed Houthi operatives. The intercepted cargo included advanced missile components, drone engines, radar systems, and large quantities of narcotics believed to be used for financing militant activities.

“These interdictions are vital to safeguarding Yemen’s future and ensuring the safety of commercial shipping lanes in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden,” the embassy stated. “By cutting off the flow of weapons and illicit drugs to the Houthis, we are directly contributing to the security of Yemenis and the broader region.”

The U.S. Department of State recently designated multiple individuals and entities involved in Houthi smuggling operations as part of a broader counterterrorism effort under Executive Order 13224. The embassy reiterated Washington’s commitment to supporting Yemen’s legitimate government and strengthening maritime security through intelligence sharing and coordinated enforcement.
