UN Envoy Urges De-Escalation in Yemen’s Eastern Provinces
Riyadh -- The United Nations Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, called on Tuesday for immediate steps to reduce escalating tensions in the eastern provinces of Hadramout and Al-Mahra, during meetings held in Riyadh with regional and international stakeholders.
Grundberg expressed concern over the growing instability in Yemen’s eastern region, warning that the developments could have serious repercussions for both local communities and broader regional security. He stressed the importance of dialogue and restraint, urging all parties to prioritize de-escalation measures to prevent further deterioration.
Diplomatic sources noted that the envoy’s appeal reflects mounting international anxiety about the situation in Hadramout and Al-Mahra, where recent mobilizations and confrontations have raised fears of wider conflict.
The UN envoy reaffirmed his commitment to supporting a comprehensive political process in Yemen, emphasizing that stability in the eastern provinces is vital for sustaining broader peace efforts across the country.
