Switzerland Denies Recognizing Houthis, Regrets Meeting With Their Representative

During the meeting, the Swiss ambassador expressed regret for the misunderstanding caused by the meeting of his country's ambassador in Tehran with a representative of the Houthi militias, denying his country’s recognition of the group.
The Yemeni legitimate government has earlier denounced the meeting between Swiss ambassador in Tehran Markus Leitner and representative of the militia in Tehran Ebrahim al-Daylami.
Yemeni Information Minister Muammar Al Eryani condemned the meeting, describing it as a “flagrant violation of diplomatic norms and international resolutions on Yemen.”
“The Iranian role in arranging these meetings is a reflection of its hostile policies towards the Yemeni government and people and an indicator of political support in addition to the financial, media and military support provided by the Tehran regime to the (Houthi) militias,” Eryani tweeted in English.
“We warn against endorsement of diplomatic missions in Tehran to Iranian agenda in legitimizing Houthi coup and its subversive policies that threaten regional and international security,” he added.
Eryani also called for respecting the will of Yemeni people and the international resolutions on the crisis, mainly resolution 2216.
The Yemeni government has earlier requested the UN Security Council to condemn the Iranian regime for recognizing the Houthi government and handing the Yemeni embassy premises in Tehran to it.
Meanwhile, Yemen’s Prime Minister Maeen Abdulmalik’s criticized the United Nations and the international community’s lack of seriousness in pressuring the militias to submit to peace and implement the one-year-long unimplemented “Stockholm Agreement.”
Silence by the UN and the international community encourages the militias to continue to defy the popular and international will and binding decisions, the Premier noted.
He affirmed that the group has “restricted the movement and work of the UN mission to re-coordinate the deployment in Hodeidah, hijacked commercial ships in the Red Sea waters and threatened international navigation, targeted the headquarters of the government team in the Redeployment Coordination Committee (RCC) with missiles and Iranian drones, in addition to its daily and continuous violations of the UN truce since it came into effect”.
