On Tuesday, the US ambassador to Yemen, Stephen Fagin, reiterated Washington's keenness to maintain the truce and implement its requirements to achieve comprehensive peace. According to the official Yemeni news agency.
The agency stated that a member of the Presidential Command Council, Sultan al-Arada, discussed with Fagen the latest developments in the Yemeni arena, and affirmed his country's "permanent support for the Presidential Command Council and the unity and stability of Yemen."
Houthi intransigence
For his part, Al-Arada affirmed the Presidential Command Council's support for the UN and international efforts aimed at establishing peace and ending the war, "if the Houthi militia commits to implementing the commitments it made to the international community under the humanitarian truce."
However, he said, "The Houthi militia continued its intransigence and refusal to implement any of the provisions of the armistice, in addition to continuing recruitment, mobilization and mobilization, including the recruitment of children, with the aim of achieving military gains."
Armistice extension
It is noteworthy that the UN Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, had announced on August 2 the extension of the UN armistice agreed upon by the Yemeni parties for an additional two months (until next October) according to the same conditions.
This extension came after a previous UN armistice that took effect last April (2022) on all fighting fronts in Yemen for a period of two months. and other governorates to improve the freedom of movement of people inside Yemen, and facilitate the entry of 18 ships carrying fuel to the ports of Hodeidah, western Yemen, within two months, in addition to allowing two flights to and from Sanaa International Airport per week.
However, the Houthi militia has so far refused to open the roads of Taiz and lift its siege imposed on the city for more than 7 years, as well as to pay the salaries of state employees from the revenues of taxes and customs of oil derivatives.
