A huge fire has destroyed 70 tents in a camp for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Yemen's central province of Marib, local authorities said on Monday.
The fire occurred Sunday evening in Al-Faw camp, which is situated in the eastern sector of the province's eponymous capital, according to the official Saba news agency.
The fire lasted till night before the civil defense teams managed to put it out. There were no casualties as the displaced managed to flee the fire, according to local authorities.
It was not yet clear what caused the fire as investigations are going on. The oil-rich Marib province hosts around 2 million IDPs, according to the estimates of the Yemeni government.
Yemen has been embroiled in a civil war since late 2014 when the Iran-backed Houthi rebels seized control of several northern provinces and forced the Saudi-backed Yemeni government out of the capital Sanaa.
The war has killed tens of thousands of people, displaced nearly 4 million, and pushed the country to the brink of collapse.
