Yemen's Houthis Claim Downing of US MQ-9 Drone
The Houthi rebels in Yemen have claimed responsibility for shooting down a U.S. MQ-9 Reaper drone over the airspace of Hajjah governorate.
According to Brig. Gen. Yahya Saree, a Houthi military spokesperson, the drone was targeted using a locally manufactured surface-to-air missile. This marks the fourth such incident in two weeks.
The MQ-9 Reaper, a sophisticated unmanned aerial vehicle, is known for its high-altitude capabilities and extended flight duration. The U.S. military has acknowledged reports of the drone's downing but has not provided further details.
This development comes amid a broader campaign of U.S. airstrikes targeting Houthi positions in Yemen, aimed at curbing their attacks on international shipping routes and regional security.
