H E Khalifa al Harthy, Undersecretary for Political Affairs in Foreign Ministry, held discussions with Hans Grundberg, Special Envoy of Secretary-General of United Nations for Yemen, in Muscat on Tuesday.
Their talks centred around the UN’s multifaceted involvement in Yemen, both political and humanitarian. Emphasis was placed on the continuous efforts to assist Yemeni stakeholders in arriving at a solution that promotes regional security and stability, especially for Yemen.
The meeting was attended by members of Grundberg’s delegation and several officials from the Foreign Ministry.
Grundberg also visited Riyadh last week where he met Rashad al Alimi, President of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council, along with other council members.
They discussed ongoing mediation efforts to agree on measures to improve living conditions, implement a nationwide ceasefire, and resume an inclusive Yemeni-owned political process under UN auspices to reach a sustainable political settlement.
The special envoy also met Yemeni Prime Minister Maeen Abdulmalik and Foreign Minister Ahmed Bin Mubarak. Grundberg stressed the need for addressing immediate priorities and launching a political process to achieve lasting peace.
