The Yemeni Interior Ministry has revealed arrangements with Saudi Arabia for a security plan in all liberated areas, including Aden, to protect vital sites and state and military institutions.

Yemeni Deputy Interior Minister Maj. Gen. Mohammed Salem bin Aboud al-Sharif told Asharq Al-Awsat that his ministry was coordinating with Saudi Arabia to place a comprehensive plan that would protect military and state facilities in Aden.

“The arrangements, which are moving steadily, involve all governorates,” Aboud said, adding that such measures would help achieve better security and stability.

He also revealed that his ministry was working on the protection of the presidential palace.

“The Interior Ministry cannot make all these arrangements without Saudi Arabia’s help,” the Yemeni official said.

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz sponsored the signing of an agreement between the legitimate government and Southern Transitional Council (STC) that took place in the Saudi capital on Tuesday.

The ceremony was attended by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Yemeni President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi, STC chief Aidarous al-Zubaidi and several senior officials.

Asked about the armed groups in Aden, bin Aboud said that after the signing of the Riyadh Agreement, the legitimate government and the STC would not accept their presence in the liberated areas.

“Such a step rectifies the situation in Yemen and unifies all efforts to fight and remove the rebel militias,” he said.

“Before the signing of the agreement, Saudi Arabia offered logistic and technical support to improve the performance of individuals and officers at the ministry through the presence of the most advanced equipment,” he said.

The ministry official added that Riyadh is keen on protecting the security and stability of Yemen, which reflects on the entire region.
