Two Gov't Soldiers Killed in Clashes with Houthis in Yemen’s Taiz
Taiz -- Two soldiers from Yemen’s internationally recognized government forces were killed and four others wounded during armed clashes with Houthi fighters in the southwestern province of Taiz, according to military sources.
The confrontation erupted on the Kalaba front, northeast of Taiz city, as Houthi militants reportedly attempted to advance into government-controlled positions. A local pro-government official, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the casualties and said the fighting occurred during the past 24 hours.
The incident marks a continuation of sporadic violence despite a fragile truce that has largely held since October 2022. While large-scale offensives have subsided, localized clashes and skirmishes remain frequent, particularly in contested areas like Taiz, Marib, and Saada.
Military officials said government forces repelled the Houthi advance and reinforced their positions. No official statement has been issued by the Houthi group regarding the incident.
Taiz has long been a flashpoint in Yemen’s conflict, with frontlines dividing the city and surrounding areas between Houthi and government control. The humanitarian situation in the province remains dire, with limited access to aid and frequent disruptions due to ongoing hostilities.
The renewed violence underscores the fragility of the current de-escalation and the urgent need for a comprehensive political solution to end the nearly decade-long war that has devastated Yemen and displaced millions.
