Road Accidents Claim Over 5,000 Victims in Gov't‑controlled Areas of Yemen in 2025
Aden — Security sources reported that traffic accidents have left more than 5,000 victims in areas under the control of Yemen’s internationally recognized government during the current year.
Major General Omar Bamshmos, Director General of Traffic Police, said in remarks carried by the Interior Ministry’s Security Media Center that 5,100 victims of all age groups were recorded between January and December 2025, across 4,654 traffic incidents in government‑held provinces.
According to Bamshmos, road accidents this year claimed the lives of 690 people, while 4,410 others sustained injuries of varying severity. Among the injured, 1,781 cases were classified as serious, with the remainder ranging from moderate to minor.
He added that material losses resulting from these accidents were estimated at 4.823 billion Yemeni rials.
The figures highlight the heavy toll of traffic accidents on communities across Yemen, where poor road conditions, limited enforcement, and the ongoing conflict have compounded risks for motorists and pedestrians alike.
