ADEN — The Electricity Corporation in Aden has issued an urgent warning that the city is on the brink of a complete power outage due to a severe fuel shortage and the absence of emergency intervention from the Yemeni government.

In a statement released on Saturday, the corporation revealed that fuel reserves have reached critically low levels, leaving only the President Power Plant operational at partial capacity. The plant is currently generating just 65 megawatts, supplemented by limited solar power during daylight hours.

“If no emergency fuel supplies are delivered within hours, all remaining power generation stations will shut down, plunging the city into total darkness,” the statement read.

The warning comes as other key facilities—including the Petro Masila and Mansoura power stations—have either ceased operations or are expected to run out of fuel within 24 to 72 hours. The corporation emphasized that the delay in providing emergency fuel threatens to trigger a humanitarian and service disaster, disrupting hospitals, water supply systems, and daily life across the city.

Officials have called on the Presidential Leadership Council and the internationally recognized government to act swiftly, stressing that electricity remains essential for operating basic services and ensuring public safety—even with reduced demand during the winter season.

Aden, Yemen’s temporary capital, has faced repeated electricity crises in recent years, exacerbated by fuel shortages, aging infrastructure, and political fragmentation. The latest alert underscores the fragility of public services and the urgent need for coordinated action to prevent a full-scale blackout.
