German Ambassador Urges Houthis to Demonstrate Commitment to Peace and Avoid Escalation
Aden _ Germany’s Ambassador to Yemen, Thomas Schneider, has called on the Houthi group to prove their genuine willingness to pursue peace and refrain from further military escalation, particularly in light of recent regional tensions and attacks in the Red Sea.
In an interview published on October 12, 2025, Schneider told Asharq Al-Awsat that the Houthis must make a clear choice between continuing the path of conflict or engaging constructively in efforts to reach a political settlement. He emphasized that “the time has come for Ansar Allah to show, through concrete actions, that they are serious about peace.”
The ambassador’s remarks come amid growing international concern over the Houthis’ continued targeting of commercial vessels in the Red Sea and their refusal to fully commit to ceasefire arrangements. Schneider stressed that Germany supports a comprehensive and inclusive peace process that addresses the aspirations of all Yemenis and restores stability to the war-torn country.
He also highlighted Berlin’s diplomatic approach to Yemen, noting that Germany is working closely with regional and international partners to facilitate dialogue and humanitarian relief. The ambassador reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to supporting Yemen’s recovery through development aid and institutional capacity-building, but warned that progress depends on the cessation of hostilities and respect for international law.
The German envoy’s appeal adds to mounting pressure on the Houthis from the United Nations and other diplomatic missions, urging them to engage seriously with peace initiatives and avoid actions that could derail negotiations or worsen the humanitarian crisis.
