Yemeni Sources Expect Imminent Cabinet Reshuffle

Yemeni President Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi has been holding extensive talks with his advisers, party leaders and Prime Minister Maeen Abdulmalik to carry out a government reshuffle, informed sources said.
The move is expected to remove a number of ministers, who proved to be inefficient in their posts, in addition to filling the vacant Foreign and General Public Works portfolios, the sources told Asharq Al-Awsat.
Observers said on Sunday that the presence of the Yemeni PM in Riyadh is mostly likely aimed at discussing the reshuffle with Hadi.
They hoped the two leaders would choose experienced and competent figures, away from partisan or regional quotas.
The sources said the reshuffle expects to include around 10 ministries, among them the vacant Public Works Ministry since Moeen Abdul Malik was appointed Prime Minister and the Foreign Ministry, after FM Khaled al-Yamani announced on June 10 his decision to resign from the government.
They said the move would also involve the ministries of Water and Environment, Tourism and Planning of International Cooperation, mainly after the PM issued a recent decree to suspend Water and Environment Minister Eizi Hibat-Allah Ali Shuraim.
Official Yemeni news agencies have remained silent on any reshuffle, however, the meeting between Hadi and Abdul Malik on Sunday referred to the performance of the government and some ministries.
Hadi confirmed the constitutional role of the ministries and government bodies and improving their performance to provide better services to citizens.
The President also stressed the importance of exerting more efforts to achieve economic and security stability to activate development and reconstruction.
For his part, the PM briefed Hadi on his government's latest accomplishments as well as progress in rebuilding institutions.
