On Friday 7 October, the Yemeni army announced that it had shot down two Houthi drones in 24 hours on the southern front of Marib Governorate.
Only on Wednesday 5 October, the Yemeni army's press office claimed that the army's air defenses had shot down a Houthi drone south of Marib. This is because international efforts to extend the truce in Yemen, which expired last Sunday, have failed.
Although the parties continued their efforts to return to the armistice in Yemen, the UN Security Council expressed disappointment that it had not extended it after the October 2 deadline.
In a statement released Wednesday by the Norwegian mission to the UN on its Twitter account, Council members welcomed the Yemeni government's involvement in the UN envoy's efforts in Yemen.
They also pointed out that the exaggerated demands of the Houthis in the final days of the negotiations hampered the efforts of the international organization to broker the deal, threatening negative consequences.
It is recalled that on 2 August the United Nations announced that the Yemeni parties had agreed to extend the armistice for another two months, under the same conditions, from 2 August to 2 October 2022.
