Yemen Intercepts Boat Carrying 205 African Migrants off Lahj Coast
Lahj – Yemeni security forces announced the interception of a smuggling vessel carrying 205 African migrants off the coast of Lahj Governorate in southern Yemen.
The operation took place in the early hours of Thursday, when patrol units identified the overcrowded boat attempting to enter Yemeni waters illegally.
Officials confirmed that the migrants, including women and children, were transported to a secure facility for medical screening and humanitarian assistance.
Authorities stated that the interception highlights the growing challenge of irregular migration routes across the Gulf of Aden, where thousands risk their lives each year in search of safety and economic opportunity.
Local officials emphasized that the incident underscores the urgent need for regional cooperation to combat human smuggling networks operating along Yemen’s southern coastline.
Humanitarian organizations have been notified to provide immediate support, while investigations are underway to identify those responsible for organizing the voyage.
