Taiz Police Arrest Prime Suspect in Killing of Sanitation Fund Director
Taiz – Security authorities in Taiz have announced the arrest of Jassar Ahmed, the prime suspect in the killing of Afthan Al-Mashhary, Director of the Cleanliness and Improvement Fund in the governorate.
According to a statement issued by the Taiz Police Department, Ahmed was apprehended during a coordinated operation following investigation and surveillance. He is accused of orchestrating and carrying out the fatal attack on Al-Mashhary, whose death last week sparked widespread outrage and calls for justice across Yemen.
Al-Mashhary, a prominent figure in local governance and public service, was known for her efforts to improve sanitation infrastructure and environmental conditions in Taiz. Her killing has been described by officials and civil society groups as a targeted act against public servants working under difficult conditions.
Authorities confirmed that Ahmed is currently in custody and undergoing interrogation. Legal proceedings are expected to follow, with the police pledging full transparency and accountability in the case.
The arrest marks a significant step in the investigation and has been welcomed by community leaders and human rights advocates, who continue to demand stronger protections for civil servants and public officials in conflict-affected regions.
