Sana’a – The United Nations has confirmed that recent torrential rains and flash floods sweeping across Yemen have claimed the lives of at least 62 people and left 95 others injured. The disaster has caused widespread devastation, affecting more than 350,000 individuals across 19 governorates.

In a statement released Friday, UN humanitarian agencies expressed deep concern over the scale of the destruction, noting that thousands of homes, farms, and critical infrastructure have been damaged or destroyed. The hardest-hit areas include parts of Hajjah, Al Mahwit, and Ibb, where rescue operations remain ongoing amid challenging weather conditions and limited access.

“The humanitarian impact is staggering,” said a UN spokesperson. “Families have lost loved ones, homes have been swept away, and entire communities are struggling to cope with the aftermath.”

Local authorities and aid organizations are working to provide emergency shelter, food, and medical assistance to displaced populations. However, the UN warned that the country’s fragile infrastructure and ongoing conflict are severely hampering relief efforts.

Yemen, already grappling with one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, faces heightened risks as the rainy season continues. The UN has called for urgent international support to bolster response operations and prevent further loss of life.
