Yemen Expresses ‘Deep Gratitude’ to Saudi Arabia after Latest Aid Package

Chairman of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) Dr. Rashad al-Alimi expressed on Sunday the PLC and government’s deep gratitude to Saudi Arabia over its latest aid package.
The Kingdom announced $368 million in additional aid for Yemen in a package that will support government finances, fuel supplies and health services, as the war-torn country grapples with deepening economic woes.
In a post on the X platform, al-Alimi said some of the support will cover operational costs for the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Hospital in the interim capital Aden.
The move reflects Saudi Arabia “brotherly support to Yemen and firm commitment to supporting the aspiration of the Yemeni people to achieving stability, peace and development,” he added.
He praised the government, Yemeni central bank and economic teams from both countries, as well as the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY) in helping reach this achievement.
The Saudi foreign ministry said on Saturday that the support, equivalent to 1.38 billion riyals, was ordered by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, “to help achieve security, stability and development for the Yemeni people” and to shore up Yemen’s financial and monetary systems.
It is “an embodiment of the Kingdom’s firm position on Yemen and keenness on its stability as it confronts its mounting economic and humanitarian crises,” it added.
Yemeni Prime Minister Salem bin Braik expressed his gratitude to King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed on their gesture, saying it was “an extension of the Kingdom’s historic support for Yemen”.
The aid “will strongly support the national economy and financial and monetary stability,” he noted.
It will also help the government improve basic services and ease the people’s suffering “amid the complicated conditions caused by years of war and division,” he went on to say.
He vowed that that his government will continue to implement economic and administrative reforms, “ensuring that the Saudi support is employed in the most optimal way to serve the people.”
Through this aid, Saudi Arabia is renewing its commitment as a strong backer of Yemen during the “most critical” moment of its recovery, added the PM.
Moreover, he called on the Gulf Cooperation Council members and international community to take similar steps to support the Yemeni economy and government so that they can fulfill their commitments to the people.
“The current situation demands greater coordination between regional and international partners,” he stressed.
