Brutal Assault on Three Aden Citizens Inside Police Station Sparks Outrage in Yemen

Taiz – A disturbing case of police brutality has emerged from the Al-Shamayatayn district in Taiz governorate, where three young men from Aden were violently assaulted inside a local police station.
The incident, which has ignited widespread condemnation across social media, involved physical abuse by more than a dozen officers, including the deputy director of the station.
According to eyewitness accounts, the three men were detained arbitrarily for wearing shorts and were subjected to verbal abuse with discriminatory and regional slurs. When one of the detainees protested, urging a soldier to respect his uniform, he was slapped repeatedly. His companions attempted to intervene, but were met with a barrage of punches and beatings from other officers.
The situation escalated when Deputy Director Ma’adh Al-Ma’mari reportedly joined the assault after returning from midday prayers. The victims were beaten with rifle butts and fists until they lost consciousness, with blood reportedly visible on the station floor.
Human rights advocates and civil society groups have condemned the attack, calling it a blatant violation of human dignity and a betrayal of the police’s duty to protect citizens. Calls for an independent investigation and accountability are growing, as Yemenis demand justice for the victims and an end to systemic abuse within law enforcement.
