One Killed, Another Injured in IED Explosion Targeting Civilian Vehicle in Eastern Yemen's Marib
Marib — A civilian was killed and another sustained moderate injuries following the explosion of an improvised explosive device (IED) that targeted a private vehicle in Al-Wadi district, located east of Marib governorate.
Local security sources reported that the incident occurred early Friday morning as the vehicle was traveling along a secondary road near the Al-Husun area. The IED, believed to have been planted overnight, detonated upon impact, causing severe damage to the vehicle and killing the driver instantly. The passenger was rushed to a nearby hospital and is currently receiving treatment.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the attack, which they suspect may be linked to armed groups operating in the region, though no group has claimed responsibility. The area has witnessed sporadic violence in recent months, including clashes between tribal forces and militants, as well as previous IED incidents targeting both military and civilian convoys.
Residents expressed alarm over the deteriorating security situation, calling on local authorities and coalition-backed forces to intensify patrols and mine-clearing operations. “We fear for our lives every time we travel these roads,” said one local shopkeeper. “The threat of hidden explosives is constant.”
Human rights organizations have repeatedly condemned the use of IEDs in populated areas, citing their indiscriminate nature and devastating impact on civilians. The latest attack adds to a growing toll of casualties in Marib, a strategic and resource-rich province that remains a focal point in Yemen’s ongoing conflict.
