ICRC and Yemen Red Crescent Provide Cash Assistance to 2,819 Displaced Families in Taiz
Taiz — The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), in collaboration with the Yemen Red Crescent Society, has distributed cash aid to 2,819 internally displaced families in Al-Ta’iziyah and Dimnat Khadir districts of Taiz governorate.
The initiative aims to help families meet their basic needs, including food, shelter, and healthcare, amid deteriorating living conditions and limited access to humanitarian services. Many of the beneficiaries have been displaced multiple times due to ongoing clashes and insecurity in the region.
ICRC representatives stated that the cash assistance program is part of a broader strategy to empower displaced populations by giving them the flexibility to prioritize their own needs. “Cash aid allows families to make choices that best suit their circumstances,” said an ICRC field officer in Taiz.
Local volunteers from the Yemen Red Crescent played a key role in identifying eligible families, coordinating logistics, and ensuring that the distribution process was carried out transparently and efficiently.
Taiz remains one of Yemen’s most conflict-affected governorates, with thousands of families living in temporary shelters or overcrowded housing. Humanitarian organizations have repeatedly called for unhindered access to vulnerable populations and increased funding to sustain relief operations.
The ICRC reaffirmed its commitment to supporting displaced communities across Yemen and emphasized the importance of neutral, impartial humanitarian action in conflict zones.
