Marib — The Public Prosecution Office in Marib has issued a statement clarifying a recent memo that sparked debate over its implications for international organizations operating in the governorate.

The office explained that the memo, which circulated widely on social media, was misinterpreted as targeting humanitarian and diplomatic missions. 

Officials stressed that the directive was intended to address procedural matters related to coordination and compliance with local laws, not to undermine the legal protections granted to foreign missions.

In its clarification, the prosecution reaffirmed Yemen’s commitment to international conventions, emphasizing that diplomatic immunities and privileges remain fully respected. 

“Our office recognizes the vital role of international organizations and diplomatic missions in supporting humanitarian efforts and upholding international cooperation,” the statement read.

The controversy had raised concerns among aid groups and civil society activists, who feared the memo signaled restrictions on humanitarian work. 

By issuing this clarification, Marib’s prosecution sought to reassure partners that their operations remain protected under international law.
