IOM Reports Surge in Internal Displacement in Yemen
Aden -- The International Organization for Migration (IOM) announced that over 18,000 individuals have been newly displaced across Yemen since January 2025, underscoring the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the war-torn country.
The majority of those uprooted were reported in Marib governorate, a region that continues to witness intense clashes and insecurity.
According to IOM’s Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM), thousands of families have been forced to leave their homes due to renewed fighting, deteriorating security conditions, and the collapse of basic services.
The organization highlighted that displacement trends remain volatile, with households often experiencing multiple displacements within a short period.
Humanitarian agencies warn that the influx of displaced families into Marib is straining already limited resources.
The governorate has long been a destination for those fleeing violence in other parts of Yemen, but aid groups caution that shelter, food, and medical support are increasingly insufficient to meet the growing needs.
IOM emphasized that the situation reflects the broader fragility of Yemen, where millions remain displaced since the conflict erupted in 2015.
The organization reiterated calls for sustained humanitarian assistance and protection measures to support vulnerable communities, particularly women and children who face heightened risks during displacement.
