Three Fishermen Missing Off Aden’s Al-Buraiqah Coast, Families Plead for Search Efforts
Aden – Three fishermen have gone missing off the coast of Al-Buraiqah district in Aden Governorate, sparking concern among local residents and prompting urgent appeals from their families to the Yemeni Coast Guard for immediate search and rescue operations.
According to eyewitnesses, the men—aged between 28 and 45—set out early Friday morning aboard a small fishing vessel and failed to return by nightfall. The boat was last seen heading toward the Ras Imran area, a stretch of coastline known for strong currents and unpredictable weather.
Relatives of the missing fishermen gathered at the Al-Buraiqah port on Saturday, calling on authorities to deploy maritime patrols and aerial reconnaissance to locate the vessel. “We are desperate for any sign of life,” said one family member. “They are experienced fishermen, but the sea is unforgiving.”
Local fishermen have joined the search voluntarily, combing nearby waters and shoreline areas. However, limited resources and lack of advanced equipment have hampered efforts. Civil society groups have also urged the government to activate emergency protocols and coordinate with international maritime agencies.
The incident highlights the vulnerability of Yemen’s artisanal fishing communities, many of whom operate without safety gear, communication devices, or reliable weather forecasting. With Aden’s coastline increasingly affected by climate shifts and maritime insecurity, calls for improved coastal safety infrastructure have grown louder.
As the search continues, families remain camped near the harbor, clinging to hope and awaiting news. The Coast Guard has yet to issue an official statement.
