The Yemeni legitimacy crisis: Split Within Presidential Leadership Council Over Chairman’s Decisions !
Aden - Four out of the eight members of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) issued an urgent statement rejecting the measures taken by the Council’s chairman, stressing that they are illegal and constitute a clear violation of the legal framework governing the Council’s work.
The statement said that the chairman’s actions represent a blatant breach of the Declaration on the Transfer of Power, emphasizing that the eight-member PLC is a collective body and that no individual has the right to unilaterally take sovereign decisions affecting the state or its relations.
The four members also warned against using state institutions to settle political scores, describing such behavior as a dangerous deviation from the purpose for which the Council was formed, namely managing the transitional phase through consensus and partnership.
The statement further rejected what it described as attempts to force the United Arab Emirates out of Yemen through unilateral measures, underlining that any such decisions must be taken by collective consensus and in accordance with established legal frameworks.
These developments come amid escalating political tensions within the institutions of legitimacy, reflecting deep divisions over the management of the current phase and the future of regional partnerships in Yemen.
